DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Coe College women's basketball team suffered a 63-54 defeat to the University of Dubuque on Wednesday evening. The Kohawks and Spartans battled back and forth in the opening half but Coe took a slim two-point lead into the break. UD charged back in the second half, outscoring Coe 12-5 in third and 21-17 in the fourth quarter to pull off the comeback victory. The loss drops the Kohawks to 7-16 on the season and 4-10 in the A-R-C while the Spartans improve to 14-8 and 8-5 in the league.
Elle Walker led the team with 13 points as she was the lone Kohawk to reach double-figures. The freshman hit two of her six long-distance tries while adding two steals and one assist in 28 minutes of action.
Molly Buck was second on the team with nine points in just 13 minutes, shooting 4-of-6 from the floor.
Kaalyn Petersen narrowly missed out on another double-double, posting eight points and 10 boards as the sophomore added three blocks and one steal.

- UD had a solid start to the game, opening with a 7-3 run to grab an early lead three minutes in. Coe stayed in touch, trading buckets with the Spartans during the next few minutes. The Koahwks were on top to end the first period, outscoring Dubuque 7-4 before the end of the period to trail 16-15 after ten minutes.
- Coe's run continued in the first few minutes of the second quarter, using a 9-2 run to grab a six-point lead with 7:30 left in the half. Southard, who had five points including one 3, fueled the run for Coe while Petersen and Wilhelmi each had a bucket. Dubuque slowly chipped away during the remainder of the first half, getting a 12-8 run to end the quarter while cutting Coe's lead to just two at 32-30.
- It was a slow start to the second half for both teams but Coe got the scoring started thanks to a jumper from Walker two minutes in. UD answered over the next two minutes, ripping off a 10-2 spurt to quickly regain the lead at 40-36. The offensive struggles continued for both teams during the final few minutes of the third, combining for just three points as UD led 42-37 with 10 minutes to play.
- The Kohawks opened the final quarter with five-straight points from Buck as she hit a three and got a layup to make it 42-42. UD then took control of the contest, scoring 13 unanswered points during a three-minute stretch to grab a 55-44 lead. Coe continued to fight over the final three-plus minutes of the game but UD converted some clutch free throws to see out the victory.
Up next: Coe will rest this weekend before returning to action next Wednesday for its final home game of the regular season, hosting Wartburg at 5:30 PM.
