ORLANDO, FL. - The Coe College baseball team got its spring break trip underway with an 11-inning 1-0 victory over SUNY Poly on Sunday afternoon after its opening game was canceled due to rain on Saturday. The Kohawks took advantage of a dominant outing by senior
TJ Deardorff who tossed seven scoreless innings while scattering four hits. The Dubuque native struck out a career-high 10 batters in the game, facing a total of 27 Wildcats on the bump. Coe recorded just two hits in the game but capitalized on a leadoff walk in the bottom of the 11th inning to secure the walk-off victory.
Jacob Brosius, who drew the free pass to start the inning, scored on a wild pitch after advancing to third on a sacrifice fly. The result moves Coe to 3-2 on the season while SUNY Poly falls to 2-2 overall.

Game Facts
- The Wildcats threatened in the top of the first inning, getting runners on first and second after a leadoff walk and a Kohawk error. Deardorff then got one out with a pick-off attempt before striking out the next batter. SUNY Poly got a single with two outs to put runners on the corners but the Kohawk Ace got a backwards K to end the inning.
- Both offenses went cold until a pitching change in the top of the eighth inning as the Wildcats put runners on first and second with no outs. Tyler Riebhoff, who entered in relief for Deardorff to start the frame, buckled down and recorded three-straight outs. The first out of the inning came on a steal attempt which James VanHooser denied while Riebhoff ended the threat with back-to-back strikeouts.
- The Kohawks got a leadoff single from Reid Rausch in the bottom of the eighth and advanced him to second on a sacrifice bunt by Tyler Elliott. Coe was unable to cash in on the scoring chance with the Wildcat pitchers working themselves out of the jam to keep it scoreless. Neither team had scoring chances in the final inning but Coe put the pressure on SUNY Poly in the 10th. TJ Johnson reached with one out in the inning and quickly advanced to third on a steal and wild pitch. The Kohawks were unable to push him across in the inning, coming up empty at the plate in back-to-back appearances to send the game into the 11th.
- Coe finally broke the deadlock in the 11th after a 1-2-3 frame from Jordan Joselit. Brosius walked to lead the inning off and immediately stole second to move into scoring position. After a failed sacrifice attempt, he moved to third on a fly-out to set up the winning run. He scored in the next plate appearance for the Kohawks on a SUNY Poly wild pitch, giving Coe the walk-off victory.
Up next: The Kohawks will continue their spring break trip tomorrow with a doubleheader against Keystone College at Lake Myrtle Field #8. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:30 PM CT.
