GAME 1
KEYSTONE 7 - COE 6
Game Facts
  • The Kohawks started the scoring early in the opening game, getting a two-run homer in the first off the bat of Brosius. TJ Johnson set the table in the inning, reaching on an error with two down in the inning and later came around to score on the big blast from Brosius.
  • Keystone got on the board in the bottom of the second, scoring a pair of runs on two hits. The Giants used back-to-back singles to threaten the Kohawks and scored the first run on a failed pick-off attempt. Two batters later Keystone got another, this time taking advantage of a throwing error on a stolen base attempt as the Giants took a 2-1 lead after two.
  • The Giants took the lead in the bottom of the fourth, getting back-to-back two-out hits including an RBI double which gave Keystone a 3-2 lead. The big inning came in the bottom of the sixth for Keystone, scoring four runs on three hits while taking advantage of one Coe error. The first three hitters reached safely thanks to back-to-back walks and an RBI single which made it 4-2. Keystone capitalized on another Coe error later in the inning, scoring on a throwing error to make it 5-2. The final two Giant runs came with two outs as Keystone posted back-to-back RBI hits to take a 7-2 lead.
  • The Kohawks didn't quit despite the large deficit, answering with four runs and four hits in the top of the seventh but the comeback fell just short. Rausch, Tyler Elliott and Jack Allison all reached to start the inning with Allison driving home Rausch on a single. Daniel Hawes then made it 7-4 on a sacrifice fly, allowing Elliott to score while Allison moved to third. TJ Johnson sliced further into the lead later in the inning, making it a 7-6 game on a two-RBI single before moving into scoring position with a swipe of second. Coe had the tying run in scoring position down to its final out but the Giants switched pitchers and found the final out of the inning.

GAME 2
KEYSTONE 6 - COE 3
Game Facts
  • Mitchell Eckardt singled to lead the game off and moved to third after back-to-back steals. He came home to score with two outs as Rausch singled to pick up the RBI and give Coe a 1-0 lead. The game went scoreless during the next two and a half innings but the Kohawks added to their lead in the bottom of the third inning. Eckardt set the table once again, reaching on a one-out single before swiping second for his third stolen base of the game. TJ Johnson put runners on first and second with a walk prior to another RBI single from Rausch which allowed Eckardt to score.
  • Keystone clapped back in the top of the fourth inning, scoring six runs on four hits while taking advantage of one Coe error. The Giants got a leadoff runner thanks to a free pass but a fly-out shortly stunted the inning. Keystone tied the game in its next plate appearance, hitting a two-run homer to quickly knot it at two. The next Giant hitter walked and then moved to second on a failed pick-off attempt. Two batters later the Giants added another, recording an RBI single to grab a 3-2 lead. The big inning continued for Keystone with two outs, getting another homer before the end of the fourth, this time a three-run blast to make it 6-2.
  • The offenses again went cold during the next two innings but Coe made a comeback charge in the bottom of the sixth. The Kohawks had runners on first and second with one out after a Tyce Johnson walk and a Tyler Elliott single. Jack Allison reached in the next plate appearance to load the bases for Coe, landing on first after an error from the right fielder. The Giants made a timely pitching change before Coe's next AB and got an immediate strikeout to put pressure on the Kohawk bats. Eckardt continued his productive day in Coe's next plate appearance, reaching first and earning an RBI with a hit by pitch to make it 6-3. The bases remained loaded for the next hitter but a strikeout ended any comeback chance for the Kohawks.
Up next: Coe will use today and Wednesday as rest days before returning to the diamond on Thursday, March 17 for a matchup with Webster University at 10 AM CT.
