ORLANDO, Fl. - The Coe College softball team picked up a pair of wins on Monday morning, extending its win streak to five games after defeating Macalester 3-1 and Defiance 5-0. The dominant pitching in Florida continued for Coe, getting a pair of standout performances from
Abby Stock and
Ellie Thurow. The juniors combined to allow just nine hits and one run in 13.2 innings of work.
Ruby Kappeler was Coe's best offensive player across the two games, collecting four hits, three RBI, one run and one stolen base in the victories. The wins improve Coe's record to 6-4 while Macalester and Defiance fall to 2-7 and 3-3 respectively.

- Coe started well in the opening game, getting a pair of runs in the first inning on RBI from Shaylee Dodd and Bree Mangelsen. Heather Boeckenstedt reached to lead off the inning after getting hit by a pitch and moved to third after a single from Kappeler. Dodd then grounded out in Coe's next at-bat, recording the RBI to give the Kohawks a 1-0 lead. Mangelsen also grounded out in the next plate appearance, picking up an RBI as Kappeler scored from third.
- The Kohawks added their final run of the contest in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring once on just one hit in the frame. Addie Menke led the inning off with a single and moved to second after a wild pitch. Keera Ball made it first and second with a walk before the pair advanced one base on another wild pitch. Two batters later, Menke scored to make it 3-0, crossing home on yet another wild pitch as the Kohawks added the insurance.
- Macalester saved its offensive charge for the final inning, scoring its only run in the top of the seventh. The Scots got a leadoff single but Stock recorded back-to-back outs to put the pressure back on Macalester. Abbie White then entered into the game for the final out and despite surrendering an RBI single, the freshman got a game-ending lineout to left field to secure the victory.

- The Kohawks started well in game two as well, getting an RBI single from Kappeler in the first inning as she drove home Boeckenstedt. Boeckenstedt reached to lead off the inning, getting hit by a pitch and quickly moved to second after a steal. After a pop-out for the first out of the inning, Boeckenstedt advanced to third on a wild pitch. Kappeler then drove her home with a single to second base, recording her first RBI of the game.
- The runs continued piling up for Coe, adding four more in the top of the second inning to blow the game open. Skyler Stookey led the inning off with a solo homerun and was later followed by Chloe Severson who reached on a one-out single. She advanced to second in the next plate appearance as Nicki Wood reached on an error to make it first and second. Boeckenstedt singled and picked up an RBI in the next at-bat, driving home Severson to make ti 3-0. Two batters later Kappeler struck again, this time doubling to right-center while pushing Wood and Boeckenstedt across home.
- Thurow, who was in the circle from the jump for Coe, dominated all game. The junior retired the side in the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings, surrendering just three hits to the 26 batters she faced. She returned to the rubber for the final inning of the contest and stranded a runner on third to secure the victory.
Up next: The Kohawks will break tomorrow and return to the diamond on Wednesday for games against Carthage and Scranton at 1:15 and 3:15 PM CT.
