Game Facts
  • The Vikings opened the scoring in the game, getting a sacrifice fly out to center field to take a 1-0 lead. Augustana scored two more runs in the top of the first inning, taking advantage of two walks and a hit by pitch with a two-RBI single, making it 3-0. The fourth run came in the top of the third as again the Vikings took advantage of an error to grab a 4-0 advantage.
  • The Kohawk bats woke up in the bottom of the third inning, scoring four runs on four hits to quickly tie the game. Tyler Elliott led off with a single before moving to third on a Mitchell Eckardt single. Jacob Brosius then loaded the bases for Coe with a single, setting the table for TJ Johnson who drove home a pair with another single. His single also crept through the legs of the center fielder, allowing Brosius to score while he moved to third. TJ Johnson then scored a wild pitch in the next at-bat, tying the game at four.
  • The game went scoreless for the next two innings but Augustana retook the lead in the top of the sixth with one run and two hits. The Vikings put two on after a walk and hit by pitch and got a two-out double to grab the 6-4 lead. Augustana added its first insurance run in the top of the eighth inning on a wild pitch before back-to-back flyouts limited the damage for Coe.
  • The Kohawks immediately answered in the bottom of the eighth, loading the bases with two out. Jack Allison earned a walk to make it 7-5 and keep the bases loaded but the threat was ended on a flyout as Augustana held Coe.
  • Augustana iced the game in the top of the ninth inning, scoring two runs on one hit while earning two more walks. The Vikings put runners on second and third with one out after a sacrifice bunt and later scored two more insurance runs on an error, putting the game out of reach with a 9-5 lead.
Up next: Coe is back in the Midwest next week for its first A-R-C series at Wartburg on March 25 and 26 for a three-game set.
