DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Coe College baseball team won a pair of road games over Dubuque on Tuesday afternoon, extending its winning streak to four games. The Kohawks jumped out to an early lead in the opening game, scoring five runs in the first two innings but the hosts fought back to draw within two runs of the lead after the fourth. Coe got what proved to be the game-winning single from
Reid Rausch in the seventh, extending the lead to 8-4 before the Kohawks held on in the final three innings. The sweep featured eight more runs for the offense, which produced eight hits and five RBI in an 8-1 victory. Coe got a solid pitching outing from
Jordan Joselit who went 4 2/3, allowing just one run and three hits while earning the victory. The sweep moves the Kohawks to 9-7 overall and 4-1 in the A-R-C while Dubuque drops to 11-6 and 3-2 in conference play.

COE 8 - DUBUQUE 7
Game Facts
- Coe's offense picked up where it left off on Sunday, getting two runs on a pair of hits in the opening inning of the game. Mitchell Eckardt led off with a single and quickly stole second before Jacob Brosius drove him home with an RBI single. After a groundout moved Brosius to third, Rausch registered a productive out with a groundout to second, scoring Brosius.
- The Kohawks avoided any response in the bottom of the first with a double-play after back-to-back base runners as the visitors led 2-0 after one. Coe wasn't satisfied with its lead, adding three more runs on three hits in the second. Creighton Kreshel singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt prior to a single from Jack Allison which scored the leadoff man. Allison advanced to third on a groundout to the pitcher but then took advantage of a passed ball and scored Coe's fourth run of the game. Eckardt then walked with the bases empty and came around to score on a single and an error as Brosius singled to left and moved up to second on the error. Coe got a walk in the next at-bat but a groundout ended the inning with the visitors in front 5-0.
- Dubuque got two back in the second, collecting three hits including a one-out triple that scored the first run for UD. The second run came on a groundout in the next plate appearance but Matthew Mittelmark escaped more damage with another groundout. The Spartans added another in the third on a one-out sacrifice fly to slice Coe's lead to just two.
- The Kohawks responded in the top of the fourth with two runs on one hit with the big blow coming from TJ Johnson. Back-to-back hit by pitches gave Coe a scoring opportunity before Eckardt recorded a sacrifice bunt to make it second and third. TJ Johnson then delivered a clutch two-out single, scoring Jack Allison and Daniel Hawes to make it 7-3. UD again responded in the bottom of the inning, scoring one run on a groundout but Mittelmark again avoided more trouble with back-to-back outs to end the threat.
- The game went scoreless until the top of the seventh when the visitors added the crucial eighth run on a Rausch RBI. TJ Johnson doubled to lead the inning off and was immediately sent home the single from Rausch who picked up his second RBI of the game. Dubuque got a run in the bottom of the seventh, grounding into a double play with runners on the corners and slashed further into the lead with two more in the eighth. The Kohawks buckled down despite the tying and leading run being on third and second, escaping any more damage before holding the Spartans in the ninth for the win.

COE 8 - DUBUQUE 1 - 7 Innings

- Dubuque got its lone run of the second game in the second inning, scoring on an RBI single with one out but Joselit avoided trouble with back-to-back outs. Coe quickly tied the game in the third inning, getting one run on one hit as TJ Johnson picked up the RBI with a sacrifice fly. The visitors scored two more in the top of the fourth and took the lead for good. Tyler Elliott drove home two runs with a single after TJ Deardorff and Jack Allison reached safely.
- The game was quiet for a long stretch of time as the pitching dominated most of the game but Coe added an insurance run in the top of the eighth. Rausch tripled to lead off the inning and was later driven in by Allison, who singled to shortstop to increase the lead to 4-1.
- The Kohawk pitchers got a quick 1,2,3 inning in the bottom of the eighth, setting up an opportunity to ice the game in the ninth. Coe scored four runs on just one hit while also taking advantage of one UD error. Coe got three-straight base runners with one down to load the bases before Tyce Johnson earned a walk to pick up an RBI. The error came in the next at-bat on a bunt from Deardorff, allowing TJ Johnson and Rausch to score and make it 7-1. The final run of the game came on a pick off of Deardorff but Tyce Johnson scored on the play to end the scoring at 8-1.
Up next: The Kohawks are back in action this weekend for a three-game series at Nebraska Wesleyan in Lincoln. The set opens on Friday with a single game at 3 PM with a doubleheader to follow on Saturday, April 2 at 1 PM.
