Game Facts
  • Coe got on the board first in the game, scoring one run on one hit in the top of the second. Mitchell Eckardt walked to lead off and immediately stole second to move into scoring position. Eckardt then advanced to third on a productive groundout from Jack Allison, setting up a RBI chance for Elliott who singled to score the run. The Kohawks padded their lead in the fourth, getting a pair of base runners with one out before a throwing error allowed both to move into scoring position. Elliott earned his second RBI of the game in the next at-bat, driving home Reid Rausch with a sacrifice fly, making it 2-0.
  • The hosts finally answered in the bottom of the fourth, putting five runs on the board on the backs of four hits. Three-straight Storm hitters reached with one out before an RBI single scored their first run of the game. Simpson then took the lead in the next plate appearance, getting a two-RBI single to keep the pressure on Coe. The final two runs of the frame came on an RBI groundout and a two-out single, allowing Simpson to take the 5-2 lead after four innings.
  • Simpson added two more insurance runs in the sixth after a scoreless fifth, getting a two-RBI double with two down. Coe refused to quit despite the 7-2 deficit, answering with one run in the top of the seventh inning. The Kohawks loaded the bases with just one out and pushed one run across on a walk but consecutive outs erased the threat from the visitors. Simpson ended the scoring in the bottom of the frame, scoring two more runs to put the game out of Coe's reach. The Storm took advantage of two hits and one Kohawk error, scoring both runs with two down in the inning.
Up next: The Kohawks will finish their series with the Storm tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 1 PM.
