CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College baseball team bounced back from a 5-1 loss in game one to Luther College for a 3-2 victory over the Norse in the second game of the Tuesday's doubleheader. The Kohawks fell behind quickly in the opening inning of the first game, surrendering a pair of runs which proved enough for the Norse. Coe secured an important split with a 3-2 in game two, scoring runs in the second, third and fourth innings en route to the victory. The split moves the Kohawks to 15-13 overall and 10-7 in the American Rivers Conference while Luther moves to 16-12 and 8-6 in the league.

- Luther took advantage of a slow start from the Kohawks, getting a pair of runs in the first inning despite just one hit. The Norse got an RBI single to open the scoring and later made it 2-0 on a fielder's choice groundout.
- Luther pushed two more across in the top of the fifth after three scoreless innings, getting a two-run homer with no one out. Coe scored its lone run in the bottom of the seventh inning, getting an RBI groundout from James VanHooser that scored TJ Deardorff. Coe had runners on the corners with two down but was unable to claw any closer as the Norse led 4-1. Luther got one final insurance run in the top of the eighth, executing a suicide squeeze play to extend its lead to 5-1.

- Both teams were scoreless in the opening inning but Luther struck first with a single run in the top of the second on an RBI double. The Kohawks responded well, scoring a run in the second and third innings to take their first lead of the day at 2-1.
- The scoring for Coe started in the second, getting a pair of hits including an RBI single from Tyler Elliott. Elliott drove home Creighton Kreshel on the hit, who had singled to lead off the inning before moving up to third. The second run for the Kohawks came in the third, on a key sacrifice fly from Kreshel who drove in Reid Rausch to take the lead.
- Luther immediately responded in the top of the fourth, tying the game at 2 with a two-out solo homer. Coe ended the game two scoring in the bottom of the frame, taking the lead for good on an RBI groundout. Elliott singled through the left side and quickly advanced to second on a wild pitch. Deardorff then executed a sacrifice bunt, putting Elliott on third before Daniel Hawes earned the RBI and game-winning run with a groundout to shortstop. The Kohawks then got five scoreless innings from relief pitchers Austin Divello and TJ Deardorff who combined to allow just three hits while striking out three batters. The pair hung on to the victory for Coe, earning starting pitcher Jacob Jones the first victory of his career.
Up next: The Kohawks will return to the diamond this weekend for a three-game series against A-R-C foe Loras College beginning with a single game on Friday at 3 PM.
