CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College baseball team grabbed a game-two victory over Loras College on Saturday, defeating the Duhawks 2-1 after falling 4-1 in the opener. The visitors claimed a win in the opener thanks to three runs in the top of the eighth inning, getting one hit while taking advantage of Coe error. The Kohawks fought back in the second game, clawing out a 2-1 victory on the backs of solid pitching efforts from
Jordan Joselit, Ethan O'Donnell and
Austin Divello. The split moves Coe to 16-14 overall and 11-8 in the A-R-C while Loras moves to 25-8 and 9-8 in the league.

Game Facts
- Loras took the lead immediately in the first inning, getting an RBI single after an early free pass. Coe threatened in the bottom of the second, getting runners on first and third with two outs but the visitors avoided damage with a groundout to second. Starting pitcher Tyce Johnson buckled down after the early run and cruised through the seventh inning, facing the minimum in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
- The Kohawks tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on a solo homer from Reid Rausch, his fourth of the season. Loras regained the lead in the top of the eighth inning with three runs with two scoring on wild pitches. Coe got one base runner in the bottom of the ninth on single from Joey Sartain but Loras clinched the victory with a game-ending strikeout.

- Loras again grabbed the lead early in the second game, getting an RBI-single in the bottom of the third to take a 1-0 lead. Both teams went cold over the next few innings but Coe took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth. Sartain and TJ Deardorff singled to lead off the inning before VanHooser was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Mitchell Eckardt then walked to bring home the first run of the game for Coe as Sartain scored. Coe took the lead later in the inning on a wild pitch that allowed Deardorff to give the Kohawks the lead.
- O'Donnell, who had entered in the fifth, recorded a shutdown-1,2,3 inning in the top of the sixth to keep Coe on top. The freshman continued his solid effort in the seventh and eighth innings, working around a base runner in each to keep Coe's lead in tact. Divello came on in the top of the ninth, looking for his seventh save of the year and the sophomore didn't disappoint, working a perfect ninth to clinch the win.
Up next: The Kohawks are back in action tomorrow for the final game of the series with Loras which is scheduled for 2 PM at Bill Quinby Field.
