CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College softball team secured its second-straight A-R-C sweep on Tuesday, taking a pair of games from Loras College 10-2 and 7-1. The Kohawks got a solid pitching performance in the opener from freshman
Abbie White but the highlight of the win proved to be a six-run fifth inning which clinched the victory. Coe got a pair of homers in the inning from
Skyler Stookey and
Racheal Huizenga with the latter winning the game on a solo shot. The Kohawk bats stayed hot in game two, pushing seven more runs across the board on nine hits. Coe picked up its third homer of the day on a two-run shot from
Heather Boeckenstedt who gave starting pitcher
Abby Stock plenty of run support to earn her sixth win of the year. The sweep moves the Kohawks to 18-8 on the season and 7-3 in the A-R-C while the Duhakws drop to 17-7 and 4-6 in the league.
GAME ONE
COE 10 - LORAS 2 - 5 Innings
Game Facts
- Coe's offense opened the scoring in the first game, getting a pair of runs in the second inning. Bree Mangelsen gave the Kohawks the lead with a clutch two-out double, driving home Nicki Wood and Skyler Stookey who had reached earlier in the inning. Loras threatened in the top of the third, getting a runner on third with just one out but White buckled down and worked her way out of the jam. The Kohawks added an insurance run in the bottom of the frame, getting a leadoff triple from Natalie Blank, who scored on the play after an errant throw from Loras.
- Loras clawed one run back in the top of the fourth, getting one run with two outs but again White avoided further damage with a groundout. Stookey immediately restored the three-run lead in the bottom of the inning, leading off with a towering solo homer to left-center. The final Loras run came in the fifth, getting a pair of hits and one run after a Kohawk error.
- The Kohawk bats exploded in the bottom of the inning, putting together three hits for six runs to end the game with the run rule. Addie Menke lead off with a pinch-hit walk and immediately moved to second on a bunt single by Heather Boeckenstedt. Blank then secured the first RBI of the inning, grounding out to second while Menke scored to make it 5-2. Madi Parson then reached on an error in the next at-bat which allowed Boeckenstedt to increase the lead to 6-2. Stookey delivered her second homer of the game and Coe's first of the inning just two batters later, lining the four-bagger over the left-field fence, driving in three more runs. The game-winning hit came with two outs in a pinch-hit situation as Racheal Huizenga delivered a solo homer in the spot appearance to win it for Coe.

COE 7 - LORAS 1
Game Facts
- The Kohawk bats stayed hot in the early portion of game two, getting four hits and three runs in the first inning. Boeckenstedt singled to start the game and was driven home on an RBI triple from Blank. Parson then made it 2-0, singling through the left side while scoring Blank. The final run of the inning came on a fielder's choice as Wood drove home Parson to make it 3-0.
- Coe added to their lead in the fourth after two scoreless innings, putting three more on the board to grab a 6-0 lead for Stock. The inning featured three hits for the Kohawks including a two-run homer from Boeckenstedt, her second of the season.
- Loras finally got on the board in the fifth, scoring just one run despite recording three hits. The lone run came with one out on a single up the middle but Stock buckled down and got the final two outs to leave a pair of runners on base. The Kohawks got Stock one final insurance run in the bottom of the fifth thanks to an RBI single from Chloe Severson who drove home pinch-runner, Maya Lindgren. Hannah Ausenhus then entered the game for the final three outs of the game and the righty worked a scoreless seventh, scattering a pair of hits to secure the sweep for Coe.
Up next: Coe is back in action tomorrow for another A-R-C doubleheader when it takes on UD at 2 PM in Dubuque.
