GAME TWO
COE 8 - CENTRAL 5
Game Facts
- Coe immediately fell behind in the second game of the day, surrendering three runs to Central in the top of the first thanks to one hit and one Kohawk error. The hosts showed no panic despite the early lead, answering back with three runs in the bottom of the first including a two-run dinger from Kreshel. The Kohawks took their first lead of the game in the next inning, pushing one run across after some solid situational running.
- Central responded in the top of the third, using three hits and one Coe error to regain a lead with a pair of runs. Three-straight base hits leveled the game a four but a 4-6-3 double play nearly ended the threat. An error in the next at-bat allowed the Dutch to retake the lead at 5-4 but starting pitcher Matthew Mittelmark buckled down and retired the side.
- The Kohawks regained the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring a pair of runs after one hit and two Central errors. Lamb reached on an error to start the inning and moved to second on a walk. He and TJ Deardorff then advanced 90 feet on a wild pitch before an RBI single from Daniel Hawes. On the single, Central threw the ball away, allowing Deardorff to score the sixth run of the game for Coe. Allison, who had entered in relief for Coe in the top of the fifth, returned in the sixth and worked another perfect inning to keep the lead at one.
- Coe added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth, getting a sacrifice fly from Reid Rausch as he drove home Mitchell Eckardt who had walked earlier in the frame. The final run of the contest came in the bottom of the seventh, scoring on a Central error as Jordan Joselit crossed home to make it 8-5. Austin Divello then entered the game for Coe with two outs in the eighth for a chance at a four-out save and the sophomore did not disappoint, registering four-straight outs to clinch the victory for the Kohawks.
