LINCOLN, Neb. - The Coe College women's basketball team ended the first round of A-R-C play with an impressive 50-30 victory at Nebraska Wesleyan on Wednesday evening. Coe started the game well, building a 21-11 lead at the half after holding the hosts to just five first-half field goals. The Kohawks then cruised to victory in the final two periods, outscoring Nebraska Wesleyan 18-11 in the third to cement their advantage. Coe's defense stood out all gam, holding NWU to single-digits in the opening three-quarters of action. Coe, which struggled to shoot from distance, finished 33 percent from the floor and held the opponents to just 22 percent shooting.
Kaalyn Petersen and
Caydee Kirkham led the Kohawk attack, posting 16 and 12 points respectively.
Theo Mba, Ellie Wisner and
Molly Buck rounded out the balanced attack for the Kohawks, adding eight, seven and five points each. The win moves Coe to 13-4 overall and 5-3 in the A-R-C while Nebraska Wesleyan falls to 5-11 and 1-7 in the conference.

- Coe got off to the perfect start, scoring 11 unanswered points across the first five minutes. Kirkham and Buck began the spurt with back-to-back 3s and were quickly followed by layups from Petersen and Mba. NWU quickly got back into the game, answering with two-straight jumpers to pull within seven. Buck restored a nine-point lead for Coe in the waning moments of the quarter, making it 13-4 with a jumper.
- Both teams struggled on offense during the majority of the second quarter, combining for just eight points in the first five minutes. NWU took advantage of the struggles, cutting Coe's lead to six with 2:15 left in the half. The Kohawks ended the quarter on top, scoring the final four points to grab a 21-11 lead at the break.
- The visitors dominated the first two-plus minutes of the third quarter, ripping off an 8-0 run to grab a comfortable lead. The spurt featured six points from Petersen and a free throw from Kirkham and Makayla Walleser. The Prairie Wolves slowed the run with a jumper but Coe continued to dominate, extending the advantage to 37-13 with 3:54 left in the quarter. NWU got back within touching distance before the end of the third, scoring five of the final seven points to make it 39-18.
- The Kohawks cruised to victory in the final quarter, trading buckets with the hosts throughout the frame. Coe put the game away for good around the six-minute mark, getting five-straight points from Wisner to go up 50-22.
