Football blanks Simpson 28-0, improves to 6-1

INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Coe College football team picked up a dominant victory on the road at Simpson on Saturday, cruising past the Storm 28-0 for its sixth win of the campaign. The Kohawk defense was stout throughout the entire game, forcing three turnovers en route to their first shutout of the season. Coe took control of the game early in the first quarter, scoring with a 61-yard touchdown catch from Zamari Bruce who had five catches for 94-yards and two scores. The Kohawks added another touchdown midway through the second quarter, extending their lead to 14 at the break. Coe's offense hit pay dirt two more times in the second half as Bruce added his second receiving score while Ray Seidel wrapped up the scoring with a two-yard run late in the fourth quarter.

GAME FACTS
  • Maske tossed three touchdowns as the commander of the Kohawk offense, completing seven of his 18 passes for 140 yards and the three scores. The senior has now thrown for nearly 1500 yards and 20 touchdowns through seven games.
  • Seidel paced the Kohawk rushing attack, picking up 94 yards on 21 carries. The senior found the endzone for the fourth time this season and now has 20 career rushing touchdowns to go aliong with nearly 1400 yards. Trenton Barnes was also efficient playing second fiddle to Seidel, rushing for 70 yards on 10 carries to bring his season total to 251 yards. He also added two catches in the game and struck for a 41-yard touchdown, finding the painted area in the second quarter. 
  • Bruce continued to dominate the outside for Coe, catching five passes for 94 yards and two scores. His longest play of the game was a 61-yard touchdown, adding a 13-yard score later in the contest. The sophomore now has a team-high seven scores with 691 yards in 2023. 
  • Coe's defense was led by Ben Ridenour with nine total tackles and one tackle for loss. The senior linebacker was joined by his position-mat Ben Adelsberger who was second with eight total stops and 1.5 tackles for loss. In total, the Kohawk defense registered 10 tackles for loss, being led by Stone Cummins who had three total TFLs and a pair of sacks. Mitchel Helmkamp and Elzie Barnett joined Cummins with quarterback sacks, each recording one. Chase Kruse, Mitchell Eckardt and Nathan Schlichting all picked off passes for the defenses, bringing the team's season total to 13. 
 
Up next: The Kohawks have their bye during the upcoming week but return to Clark Field for their next game, hosting Luther College on October 28 at 1 PM.
