GRINNELL, Iowa - The Coe College swimming and diving teams opened their competition season on Friday evening, competing against Grinnell College in a dual meet. The Pioneer men and women won both duals on the night however Coe managed to produce some strong results, securing numerous first-place and podium finishes.
Margaret Rhodes and
Megan Norris picked up where they left off from last season, each earning individual victories throughout the evening. Rhodes, last year's A-R-C Championship Female Swimmer of the Meet, won the 100 fly and finished second in the 200 free. Norris kept up her dominant efforts in the diving disciplines, taking the top spot in the 1 and 3-meter competitions. Her score of 258.3 in the 1-meter competition was good enough for an NCAA qualifying mark, besting the minimum requirements of 255 in six dives.
Natalie Thede was the other Kohawk to earn a pair of top-three finishes, winning the 1000 free while finishing third in the 500. Coe's men were led by freshman duo
Giannino Coniglio and
Isaiah Lawshe who each earned a handful of top-five finishes.
