MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - The Coe College volleyball team saw its season come to a close on Thursday afternoon in the opening round of the NCAA DIII Volleyball tournament, falling 3-1 to #4 UW-Whitewater at the Small Athletic & Wellness Center on the campus of Cornell College. UWW started strong in the contest, cruising to an early 1-0 lead with a 25-15 decision in the opener. Coe battled back and tied the match in the second set with a 25-20 decision but Whitewater proved their class in the third and fourth sets, winning 25-12 and 25-20 to secure a 3-1 result. Coe hit just .051 in the defeat, committing 28 errors opposed to just 19 for the Warhawks. Whitewater his .204 in total and had 51 kills while holding Coe to just 37 in total.
Maggie Furlong was Coe's top attacker in the defeat, finishing with 11 kills and 13 digs.
Grace Lueken and
Madi Parson finished second and third on the team with eight and seven kills respectively in their final matches for the Kohawks.

- Whitewater built an early 3-1 lead but Coe responded back, scoring four of the next seven to tie the set. The Warhawks pulled away a few rallies later, stretching the lead to six at 18-12. The opponent continued to click in the dying moments of the period, scoring six-straight points en route to a 25-15 win in the opener. The Kohawks quickly responded in the second, grabbing an early 7-3 lead thanks to a stretch of four straight. Whitewater slowly chipped away at the lead and later had a four-point run of its own, tying the set at 11. Coe regained control of the period in the next few minutes, scoring nine of 15 points to grab a 20-17 lead. The Kohawks ensured the match would be tied at one set each late in the frame, stringing together another three-point run to put away the Warhawks. Whitewater bounced back in the third and fourth sets, dominating both periods to claim the match victory. Coe struggled in both sets, hitting just -.021 in the third and .024 in the fourth while UWW hit .268 and .171 en route to the win.
