CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College swimming and diving teams completed the regular season on Saturday afternoon, hosting Simpson in Coe's final dual of the season. The 2023 senior class of
Lauren Pio, Sydney Lage, Ericka Pereira, Natalie Thede, Luke Baldwin and
Zach Kolker were honored prior to the meet for their contributions to the programs! The duals were successful for both teams, with each securing numerous first-place finishes throughout. The women claimed their second dual win of the year with a 163-44 win over the Storm while the men suffered a narrow 56-52 defeat to the visitors.
The women were led by Pio, who picked up a pair of individual golds in the 200 Free and 100 Fly while also swimming on the first-place 200 free relay team.
Megan Norris, Supriya Patel and
Margaret Rhodes all joined Pio with a pair of individual wins for the Kohawks, helping the women dominate their half of the dual. Patel earned wins in the 200 IM and 100 Breast while Rhodes took the top spot in the 100 Free and 500 Free. Norris swept the diving competition for the Kohawks, earning the title in the 1M and 3M disciplines with scores of 268.35 and 252.65.
Jessica Adams and
Izzy Craig rounded out the individual victories for the women, earning gold medals in the 1000 Free and 100 Back to help contribute to the team scores. Two Kohawk relay teams took home the top podium spot, securing wins in 200 Medley and 200 Free relay. Craig, Rhodes,
Valerie Gutierrez and
Hollye Gutierrez teamed up in the 200 Medley relay, posting a time of 2:00.30 en route to the win. All four female seniors then combined for Coe in the 200 Free relay, turning in a time of 1:52.54 to finish just ahead of second place. The Kohawk men were once again led by
Luke Baldwin and
Zach Kolker. The senior swimmers earned a pair of individual titles to celebrate their senior days. Baldwin won the 50 Free and 100 Breast while Kolker claimed gold in the 100 Fly and 100 Back.
