MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - The #13 Coe College wrestling team secured a Bremner Cup point for the Kohawks on Thursday evening, defeating Cornell College 33-6 at the Small Athletic and Wellness Center. Coe, which extended its current winning streak over the Rams to five matches, dominated from the opening bout and earned bonus points in five contests.
Alex Friddle, Bryce Parke, Tristin Westphal, Jared Voss and
Kaleb Reeves stood out for Coe, claiming bonus-point wins for the Kohawks in the dual.
Junior
Cade Hornback began the match well for Coe, extending his winning streak to 11 with a 3-0 decision at 125. Friddle and Parke then picked up back-to-back major decisions, immediately extending the lead for Coe. Friddle dominated from the jump and narrowly missed out on a tech fall, winning 16-2 while Parke shutout his opponent for an 8-0 decision.
Riley Wright made it four-straight wins for Coe to start, grinding out a tough 3-1 victory to cement his team's lead. The Kohawks suffered their lone defeats in the next two matches, dropping narrow decisions to a pair of top-15 Ram wrestlers.
LJ Richardson kickstarted the bounce back at 174, picking up an 8-3 decision to reestablish Coe's momentum in the dual. The visitors finished the job with an exclamation point, getting three bonus point victories from Westphal, Voss and Reeves. Westphal started the run with a comprehensive 16-3 major decision at 184 before Voss earned a first-period pin in just 1:59. Reeves continued his dominant campaign in the final match at heavyweight, also claiming a pin 40 seconds into the first period.
