IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Coe College baseball team completed its pre spring break schedule on Tuesday afternoon, competing against the University of Iowa in an exhibition contest that the Hawkeyes won 8-2. Coe's starting pitcher
Jacob Schmit worked two innings on the mound, allowing just two hits and one run while facing nine batters. Schmit recorded one strikeout in his two innings, one of six for the Kohawk staff. Offensively, Coe recorded a pair of hits and drew four free passes, piling up six base runners against the nationally-ranked Division I program. The team started the game with back-to-back base runners with
Mitchell Eckardt and
Jacob Brosius reaching on a walk and hit batsmen.
Tyce Johnson then gave Coe a 1-0 lead with a productive groundout to short, driving home Eckardt. Eckardt and Brosius recorded back-to-back base hits in the top of sixth innings to combine for Coe's second run, posting a single and a triple as Brosius earned the team's lone RBI of the game.
Up next: Coe is in action on Saturday, kicking off its spring break trip with a single game against Wheaton College at 9 AM CT.
