CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College baseball team suffered a pair of defeats to Luther College on Wednesday afternoon, falling 4-1 in game one and 6-3 in game two. Coe got a solid start from freshman

The Kohawks managed just seven hits in the contest and scored just one unearned run against Luther's starter who went all nine innings. Coe got a first-inning homer from
Creighton Kreshel in game two, giving his team a 2-1 lead after the opening frame. Luther scored two in the third and fourth inning, regaining the advantage which it held for the remainder of the game. The losses drop Coe to 11-9 overall and 3-5 in the A-R-C while Luther improves to 14-8 and 7-0 in league play.
LUTHER 4 - COE 1

- Luther got on the board quickly in the opening game, scoring a pair of runs on two hits and two Coe errors in the first. The first run came around to score on a sacrifice fly just two batters in with the Norse taking advantage of an error and a wild pitch. The visitors made it 2-0 with two outs in the frame, getting a one-run single to double the advantage.
- The game went scoreless for the next few innings as each team recorded just two hits. Coe got its lone run in the fourth, capitalizing on a leadoff single from Jake Brosius. The speedy center fielder moved to second on a groundout and then stole third before advancing home on an errant throw from the catcher. Luther ended the game's scoring in the top of the fifth, restoring a multi-run lead with a two-run double. Coe put runners on base in each of the sixth, seventh and eighth innings, threatening to make some noise against the Norse but starter Nick Dufoe avoided any trouble en route to the win.
LUTHER 6 - COE 3
Game Facts
- Luther again jumped ahead in the first inning of the night-cap, tallying one run on a two-out RBI single. Coe had a response in its half of the first, getting a leadoff double from Mitchell Eckardt. - The Norse regained the lead in the third, scoring two more runs on a pair of RBI hits. The first two hitters were retired in order but a two-out walk set the table for the visitors to make it a 3-2 game. Luther added two insurance runs in the fourth, getting one hit while scoring on a Kohawk error. The Norse led off with a solo homer and later made it 5-2, scoring on a defensive miscue from the hosts. The final Luther run came in the sixth, getting an RBI single after two more Kohawk errors. Coe put pressure on the Norse in the eighth, getting one run after three walks in the inning but the visitors avoided any further damage with back-to-back strikeouts to end the frame. The Kohawks were retired in order in their final plate appearance of the doubleheader, recording a groundout, flyout and strikeout to Luther secured the sweep.
