CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College baseball team saw its 2023 season come to a close on Friday afternoon, falling 4-1 to Luther College in an American Rivers Conference tournament elimination game at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Coe and Luther went scoreless in the opening two frames until
Jake Brosius gave the Kohawks a 1-0 lead in the third inning with an RBI double. Luther fought back in the next few innings, getting a run in the fourth and fifth inning to take the lead which the Norse held for the remainder of the game. The opponents went on to add a pair of unearned runs in the seventh inning, taking advantage of two defensive errors from the Kohawks. Despite the loss, freshman
Nolan Schroeder turned in one of his best collegiate starts, going eight innings while allowing just three hits and one earned run. Coe ends the year with a record of 23-17 overall.

Game Facts
- The Kohawks threatened immediately in the opening inning, getting a pair of hits, but a groundout eliminated any chances of Coe striking in the frame. Coe capitalized on three hits in the third inning starting the rally with a one-out single from Mitchell Eckert and Jack Allison to set the table for Brosius. The sophomore center fielder came through for Coe with a double to left field, driving in his team's lone run of the game. The Kohawks failed to add any more runs to their total prior to the end of the third despite runners on second and third, registering a strikeout and groundout to kill the rally.
- Luther got its first run an inning later, scoring one time in the fourth inning. The Norse were helped out by an inning-opening error before driving home the game-tying run with a sacrifice fly to right. The momentum continued for the opponents in the fifth as the Kohawk foe added another run to take the lead, this time getting a two-out single to grab a 2-1 advantage. The Norse capitalized on more defensive errors from Coe in the seventh, extending their lead to three runs after a trio of Kohawk errors and a hit batter.
- Coe would threaten with runners on base in both the top of the eighth and ninth innings, registering a pair of base runners in each frame. Jack Allison and Brosius reached in the eighth but were left on after a flyout to center. Tyler Elliott and Kevin Lamb then reached to lead off the ninth inning but Luther got a popup and a game-ending double play to secure the victory.
