ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Coe College volleyball team began its 2023 season with a 3-1 win over Concordia (Wis.) on Friday evening on the opening day of the Kathryne Pals Legacy Invitational. Coe had a strong start in the contest, opening the match with a 25-15 decision in the first set. The Falcons fought back in set two, pushing the Kohawks to the brink with a late rally but Coe managed to hang on for a 25-22 win. CUW stayed alive in the third set with a strong comeback, answering with a 25-20 decision after an early 3-0 advantage. Despite the third-set loss Coe responded, erasing a 4-0 deficit in the period to come from behind for a 25-22 victory.

GAME FACTS
- Sophomore pin hitter Maddie Harris led a well-balanced Kohawk attack, posting a team-high 12 kills while hitting .357. Grace Lueken joined Harris with double-digit kills, adding 10 from the middle position while adding a pair of solo blocks.
- Three other Kohawks finished the match with at least seven kills as Gracie Urbatsch, Madi Parson and Maggie Furlong contributed to Coe offense.
- Sophomore setter Maddy Maahs posted 39 assists in the win and was just two digs shy of a double-double. Freshman libero Hanna Pizolato recorded 21 digs in her collegiate debut, committing just three errors during the win.
- The Kohawks had six total service aces, getting three from Furlong, two from Madi Parson and one from Harris.
Up next: The Kohawks return to the court tomorrow for two more non-conference matches, taking on #5 Northwestern (MN) at 12 PM before facing Bethel at 2 PM in St. Paul, Minnesota.
