CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College men's basketball team suffered a 74-71 defeat to Cornell College on Wednesday evening at Kohawk Arena in the two teams' second meeting this season. The Kohawks took an early lead in the opening five minutes, scoring 10 of the game's first 13 points to take control. Cornell quickly settled into the contest with a 21-6 run before the nine-minute mark of the half, taking a 22-14 lead thanks to the spurt. The teams traded buckets over the final minutes of the frame but a slight advantage for the Kohawks brought them to within seven at the half.
Bennett Sherry took over the opening minutes of the second half, scoring eight points to help make it 40-37 three minutes in. Coe finally tied the game late in the final half, using a 10-5 run that was capped off by a turnaround jumper from
John Steffen with 41 seconds to play. Cornell had two chances for the go-ahead bucket on the next possession, missing an initial jumper before corralling the loose ball and firing home the game-winning shot.

- The Kohawks got off to a strong start, getting a pair of 3s from Cole Hrubes en route to a 10-3 advantage. Cornell quickly snapped back, utilizing a 19-4 run to flip the score in its favor at 22-14. Sherry spearheaded Coe's next run, scoring four points during a 10-2 run that helped tie the game at 24. The Rams regained control of the game before the end of the half, scoring 10 of the final 13 points as the visitors were 4-of-5 shooting en route to a 34-27 halftime lead. Sherry and the Kohawks raced out of the locker room, scoring 10 of the first 16 points to make it 40-37. Cornell settled back in and found its offensive rhythm again, trading blows with the Kohawks while slightly pushing its lead to seven with 8:23 to play. Coe's final charge began around the seven-minute mark, outscoring Cornell 15-7 to close the gap to one at 69-68 with 2:30 to play. The Rams got two clutch 3s over the two final possessions, one to take a 71-69 lead and the game-winning 3 that came with less than three seconds on the clock. The Kohawks had one final chance to tie the game but a last-ditch effort bounced off the backboard and the front to seal the deal.
