Men's Basketball hangs on in final moments to defeat Edgewood

MADISON, Wisc. – The Coe College men's basketball team picked up a narrow victory on Saturday at Edgewood College, defeating the host Eagles 64-63 in a non-conference matchup. Coe controlled the opening eight minutes of the contest, building an early double-digit lead before the midway mark. The Eagles fought back before the halftime whistle, cutting the deficit to one point with a late 17-6 run. The teams traded blows in the early moments of the second half but an 11-5 stretch for the Kohawks gave the visitors a 60-50 lead with 5:16 to play. Edgewood refused to go away despite the double-digit lead, making it a one-possession contest with 47 seconds to play. The Eagles later got within two and held possession, drawing a foul for a chance to tie the game with 2 seconds left. Edgewood only managed to go 1-of-2 from the line, missing the potential game-tying free throw as Coe hung on for the victory. The Kohawks held Edgewood to 41.8 percent shooting and out-rebounded the hosts 39-33. Second-chance points proved one of the main differences in the victory as Coe scored 10 to Edgewood's two. The offensive effort was led by a trio of double-digit scorers with Deuce Walters scoring a team-high 13 points. Cooper Nailor (11) and Cole Hrubes (10) were the other Kohawks in double-digits while the remaining seven players to see the floor scored at least one bucket.
