CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College men's basketball team dismantled the Simpson College Storm in a 79-51 victory at Kohawk Arena on Wednesday evening. The Kohawks were on top from the opening tip, building an early double-digit lead before pouring it on later in the first half and throughout the second period. Coe's offense was led by
Cole Hrubes and
Bennett Sherry, scoring 25 and 18 respectively as the pair were the lone Kohawks in double-figures. 10 other players recorded points in the victory with three players scoring at least five or more. Coe's defense kept the clamps on Simpson for the entirety of the matchup, holding the visitors to just 35.5 percent shooting from the floor and 0-for-18 from beyond the arc.

- It was a near-perfect start for Coe in the first few minutes, ripping off a 13-4 run in the first 3:36. Sherry spearheaded the run, scoring six points while Hrubes added five including an early 3. The Kohawks continued to pile it on, using an 8-2 run to go up 21-8 with 11:34 left in the half. Coe pushed its lead to 20 later in the half, scoring 10 unanswered points in a span of 1:53 to make it 37-17 with 4:39 left in the frame. The Storm answered the spurt with a 10-0 run of their own, closing the gap back to 10 with 2:03 left in the first. Coe got control before the halftime whistle, ending the period with an 8-2 run that was capped off by 3s from Hrubes and Deuce Walters. The hosts kept things going in the first few minutes of the second half, scoring the opening nine points to push the lead to 54-29. The Kohawks continued the build the lead over the closing minutes of the matchup, getting contributions from deep off the bench en route to the big win.
