STORM LAKE, Iowa – The Coe College men's basketball team fell 63-60 to the Buena Vista University Beavers on Saturday evening. The Kohawks and Beavers battled back and forth throughout the contest, but the Kohawks trailed for most of the contest, only holding the lead for 7:51. The hosts commanded the opening 11-plus minutes of action, opening the game on a 19-13 run but Coe fought back and made it a two-point game before the half.
Brady Klahn opened the second half with a go-ahead 3 for the Kohawks and sparked an early run as Coe led 37-36 with 14:19 to play. The Beavers flipped the score later in the period, ripping off a 14-0 run to take a 54-46 lead with less than five minutes left. Coe made things interesting in the final minute, getting back-to-back 3s from
Cole Hrubes and a layup from
Bennett Sherry but clutch free throws and a timely foul from the hosts ended any further comeback chances for the Kohawks.

- BVU controlled the opening five-plus minutes, scoring 10 of the opening 12 points while knocking down a pair of 3s. Coe slowly made its way into the game, using an 11-4 run during the next 5:32 to trim the lead to one at 14-13. The Beavers attempted to regain control before the end of the half, scoring 14 of the next 26 points to pull back in front 28-21 with 1:09 left in the period. Hrubes and Cooper Nailor pulled the Kohawks back to a one-possession game before the final buzzer, hitting a 3 and buzzer-beating jumper to make it 28-26. Klahn's 3 was the opening bucket of the second half but BVU responded, scoring the next eight points to pull back in front 36-29. The Kohawks pulled themselves back into the game with a dominant run over the next 4:08, scoring 12 of 14 points to go ahead 41-38 with 12:17 to play. BVU got a jumper to slow the run momentarily but Hrubes and the Kohawks scored five more unanswered to push their lead to six with 8:52 remaining. The Beavers dominated the next 3:56, blanking the Kohawks while scoring 14 unanswered points to take a 54-46 lead. Coe clawed back in the final four minutes of action, getting within two points after back-to-back 3s from Hrubes and a bucket from Sherry. Buena Vista sealed the victory with some clutch free throw shooting, hitting 4-of-6 to hang on.
