Four Kohawks hit double-digits as Men's Basketball picks up road win at North Central (MN)

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.  – The Coe College men's basketball team got back on track on Monday evening, defeating North Central (MN) 80-69 in a non-conference matchup. The Kohawks led for 35 minutes in the game, taking control early with an 11-2 run in the first five minutes. The hosts fought and kept things close over the closing minutes of the first period, trading blows with the Kohawks to trail by just three at the half. Coe had another strong start to the second half, using a 12-7 spurt in the first four minutes to regain an eight-point lead. North Central dominated the following six minutes and took its first lead of the game with 9:36 to play, ripping off a 19-10 run to pull ahead 58-57. The teams went back and forth momentarily but Coe scored eight unanswered points to take the lead for good, getting the game-changing run in less than two minutes. The Rams closed the gap to six with just under three minutes to play but a clutch jumper from Jackson Bowman ended any further comeback chances. Coe had four players hit double-figures in the win with Bennett Sherry scoring a game-high 20 points while adding eight rebounds and two blocks. Ryan Dolphin (15), Bowman (13) and Cole Hrubes (11) were the remaining three players to hit the double-digit mark while four other players registered points in the win.

GAME FACTS
  • Sherry dominated the opening minutes of the game, scoring the first bucket on a jumper before adding six more points during the opening stretch. The hosts quickly responded, using an 11-2 run in the next 3:38 to tie the game at 13-13. Coe slowly regained a multi-possession lead during the next run of play, outscoring North Central (MN) 18-11 with six different players scoring on the run. The Rams pulled closer to the lead before the end of the half, using an 8-4 run in the final three minutes of the frame to make it 35-32. North Central scored five of the first seven points in the opening two minutes of the second half, tying the game at 37. The Kohawks answered with another quick spurt in the next 1:38, scoring 10 of the next 12 points to regain a 47-39 lead with 16:09 remaining. The hosts clawed back further over the next 9:18, using a 23-14 run to pull ahead 62-61 with 6:15 to play. Bowman kickstarted a clutch run for the Kohawks to change the game, scoring a layup to begin an 8-0 run for the visitors who went up 69-62. The Rams refused to go away, getting back within six with 2:42 to play but a big-time jumper from Bowman put enough distance between the squads for Coe to hold on for the win.
