CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College football team secured its second straight nine-win season on Saturday afternoon at Clark Field, defeating the Simpson College Storm 47-10 in the regular-season finale. The Kohawks shook off a slow opening quarter where they were held scoreless, responding with 19 points in the second quarter and 21 points in the third.
Trenton Barnes found the endzone twice in the second quarter while
Jeron Senters scored on a 30-yard reception to help give Coe a 19-3 lead at the break.
Devon Kollasch had Coe's play of the game for the first score of the third quarter, taking a short third-down screen pass for a 90-yard touchdown. The defense and special teams joined in on the party for the next two touchdowns of the quarter as
Jack Clarahan recovered a misplayed punt and returned it for a three-yard touchdown.
Henry Ryan put an exclamation mark of the scoring in the third, picking off a pass for a 39-yard touchdown on the ensuing Storm drive. Coe's offense added one final score in the fourth quarter, striking again for an explosive play as freshman
Tre'sean Cunningham scored a 65-yard touchdown. Simpson got some consolation before the final whistle blew, scoring its lone touchdown against Coe's second and third-string defensive unit with less than two minutes to play. Coe's defense held the Storm to just 39 yards on 24 rushing attempts and picked off a pair of passes. Kollasch finished with 167 receiving yards and one score, marking the 13th-highest total in Kohawk history.

- Simpson scored the lone points of the opening quarter, capping off a lengthy 11-play, 45-yard drive with a field goal around the four-minute mark. Coe's offense came to life after the score, marching 75 yards in 10 plays for the game's opening touchdown. Barnes, who seeded most of the carries on the drive to Andrew White, came back in and punched in from two yards out to make it 6-0. Brady Kelly and Jeron Senters connected for the next Kohawk touchdown midway through the quarter as the Kohawk gunslinger found Senters along the right sideline for a 30-yard strike. Barnes found paydirt for the second time in the period with less than a minute left, cashing in from two yards to cap off a quick seven-play 78-yard drive. The Kohawks pulled away in the third quarter, starting the scoring with the impressive play from Kollasch. The junior wideout caught a simple screen pass and juked out numerous defenders before leaving the rest of the defense in his dust. Clarahan and Ryan were the next two touchdown scorers for the Kohawks, helping extend the lead to 40-3 before the end of the third quarter. Cunningham put the icing on the cake in the early minutes of the fourth quarter, taking the opening play of Coe's first drive for a 65-yard score.
