CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College wrestling team opened the postseason on Thursday afternoon, competing in the first day of competition at the NCAA Lower Midwest Regional Championships. Coe's first day of wrestling was highlighted by seven athletes securing spots in their respective semifinals and a current second-place position in the team standings.

Dresden Grimm (141),
Ty Koedam (149),
Will Esmoil (165),
LJ Richardson (174),
Jared Voss (184) and
Mathieu Arsenault (197) were all undefeated on Thursday, combining for 15 total victories. The Kohawks were tied for the lead in total pins as a team, registering 10 total falls while ranking fourth in total match points.
Bryce Parke (133) and
Damari Dancy (285) still remain alive in the tournament despite defeats on the opening day, each scheduled to compete in the consolation round tomorrow morning. Hornback, Grimm and Koedam each defeated nationally-ranked opponents to reach the semifinals, taking down the fourth, ninth and seventh-ranked wrestlers in their respective weight classes. Esmoil picked up a trio of bonus-point wins at 165, earning back-to-back falls in the preliminary and opening round before a second-round tech fall. Richardson and Arsenault each pinned their way to the semifinal round, picking up two falls apiece to book their places. Voss earned a fall in his opening match just under two minutes into the first period and later battled out a 5-0 decision in the quarters. Wrestling will continue at the Alliant Energy Powerhouse tomorrow, Friday, March 1 with the Regional Semifinals and Consolation Third Round at 10 AM. The Consolation Semifinals and Consolation Third Place is scheduled for 12 PM with the Championship, Third Place, Fifth Place and Seventh Place matches set for 1:30 PM.
