LA CROSSE, Wisc. - Coe College senior wrestler
Will Esmoil booked his place in the 165-pound National Semifinals on the opening day of the DIII National Championships, posting a perfect 2-0 record while claiming his second-career DIII All-American honor. The West Liberty native dominated his way through the first and second rounds, securing a 6-0 decision in his first bout before an 11-3 major decision in the quarterfinals. He defeated returning all-American and third-seeded Cooper Willis from Augsburg, avenging a pair of regular-season losses to Willis. Esmoil, who advances to tomorrow's National Semifinals to face second-seeded Nicholas Sacco of TCNJ, added the second all-American honor of his career.
Cade Hornback, Bryce Parke and
Ty Koedam all battled in the opening two rounds but ultimately were eliminated from the tournament as the trio suffered a pair of defeats on the opening day.
