ORLANDO, Fl. - The Coe College baseball team rounded out the Florida slate of its 2024 schedule on Friday and Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader against Dickinson before dropping its Spring Break finale to Wheaton (Mass.). Coe showed well in the doubleheader against the Red Devils on Friday, piling up 22 hits across the two victories. Game one featured a pair of four-run innings en route to a 10-4 victory before Coe's pitchers dominated for a 7-1 win in game two. The Kohawks outhit the Lyons in the final game of their trip, holding Wheaton to just four hits but a lack of clutch hits and some defensive miscues cost the Kohawks.
COE 10 - DICKINSON 4

- Coe got on the board first in the opener with a run in the second inning, taking advantage of back-to-back one-out baserunners. CJ Johnson delivered the opening run, scoring Ryan Thoreson on a sacrifice fly. The Kohawks would pull further ahead in the fourth, getting four runs on four hits including RBI knocks from Reid Rausch, Creighton Kreshel and Kaden Haller. Dickinson slowed the run momentarily in their half of the fourth, scoring once with a sacrifice fly. The Kohawks put the game away in the fifth with four more runs, using three hits and one Red Devil error. Kreshel delivered the first RBI knock of the inning and was later followed by Mitchell Eckardt who made it 8-1 with a two-run single. The final run came across on a throwing error from Dickinson, allowing Coe to go up 9-1. The Kohawks scored one final time in the top of the seventh as Kreshel got his third RBI of the game, driving home Anthony Ranallo.

- The Kohawks took the lead in the bottom of the first of game two, getting an RBI single from Reid Rausch. The Kohawks added a three-spot in the third, using three straight one-out singles from Mitchell Eckardt, Jon Wille and Jake Brosius. Brosius scored the game's fourth run later in the frame, scampering home on a wild pitch after swiping both first and second base. The Red Devils got their lone run in the fourth but failed to capitalize further. Coe scored once in the fourth as Eckardt stayed hot, driving home Tyce Johnson with his second hit of the contest. Austin Gomez made it 7-1 in the fifth, driving home a pair of runners with a one-out single. Jack Walsh pitched the final three innings and earned his second victory of the year, striking out four of the 11 batters he faced.
WHEATON (MASS.) 2 - COE 0
Game Facts
- Coe outhit Wheaton in the final game of the series, tallying six knocks while holding the opponent to just four. The Kohawk's first scoring chance came in the second inning, putting a pair of runners of with one-out singles but the Lyons worked around it with an inning-ending double play. Coe had another run in scoring position in the fourth, getting back-to-back one-out baserunners but again Wheaton worked out of the jam. The Lyons scored the opening run in the top of the sixth, taking advantage of three walks and a wild pitch for the lead. Wheaton scored the final run of the contest in the top of the eighth, getting the lone run thanks to a pair of Coe errors. The Kohawks brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth after a Ryan Thoreson single but failed to get anything on the board with a pair of flyouts to end the game.
Up Next: Coe returns to action next weekend for the first A-R-C weekend series of 2024, hosting Wartburg College on Friday, March 22 at 3 PM. The series concludes with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 23 at 1 PM.
