Baseball moves to 4-0 in A-R-C play with doubleheader sweep of Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Coe College baseball team improved to 4-0 in American Rivers Conference action on Wednesday afternoon, sweeping a pair of road games at the University of Dubuque 14-2 and 3-0. The Kohawks churned out 14 hits in the first game of the day, getting RBI from six players. Coe's pitching staff turned in an impressive effort to complement the offensive output, as four Kohawks combined to allow just six hits for the Spartans. Jack Walsh earned his third win of the season as he got the start and struck out seven batters, allowing just two hits in four innings of work. Caden Richards spearheaded another dominant pitching effort from the Kohawks in game two, working four scoreless frames with six strikeouts and just two hits allowed. Landon Moore, Caden Evans and CJ Johnson combined in the backend of the game to secure the shutout, with Johnson earning his second save of the campaign. Offensively, Coe had just five hits, but three players picked up RBI including Jake Brosius and Reid Rausch who drove home runs in the top of the first inning.

  • Coe opened the scoring in the first inning of the opener, loading the bases just four batters in. Ryan Thoreson put the first tally on the board with a productive grounder, driving home Jon Wille on a fielder's choice. The game went silent for the next four innings despite Dubuque putting runners on in the second inning. The visitors added to their lead in the top of the fifth, doing damage with two outs to score a pair. Kaden Haller, Mitchell Eckardt and Wille produced three-straight singles with the last pushing home the second run. Jake Brosius then made it four-straight singles one batter later, pushing Eckardt home from second to make it 3-0. Coe pulled away in the top of the seventh after chasing the UD starting pitcher, tallying four hits for four runs. A Brosius single started the rally before Reid Rausch scored two with a double to deep center. Game Facts
  • Coe picked up where it left off in game one, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Wille doubled with one out and was immediately brought home on a triple from Brosius. Rasuch quickly made it 2-0 in the next at-bat, delivering a sacrifice fly to push Brosius home.
