CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College baseball team dropped its first A-R-C contest on Friday, falling 11-6 to Buena Vista in a hit-filled matchup with the Beavers. Coe opened the scoring in the bottom of the second, getting a two-run homer from
Jack Allison, his second of the year. Buena Vista took control in the middle portion of the game, scoring eight runs across the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. The visitors scored five in the fifth to take command, getting four straight hits to lead off the frame. Coe closed the gap to three in the seventh on a solo homer from
Mitchell Eckardt but three eighth-inning runs for the Beavers sealed the deal. The teams combined for 31 hits and five homers with Eckardt, Allison and
Reid Rausch producing round-trippers for Coe.

- The Kohawks opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning, using a pair of one-out hits to hop in front. Ryan Thoreson delivered a one-out single to begin the rally before Jack Allison smashed a two-run homer to center in the next at-bat. BVU finally got to Coe starter Ethan O'Donnell in the top of the fourth, getting three hits and one run to slice the deficit to one. The Beavers broke out one inning later and took the lead for good, exploding for five runs on six hits. Jon Wille got one back for Coe in the bottom of the fifth, driving home Kaden Haller with a two-out double. Buena Vista quickly answered in the top of the sixth, getting a leadoff double and two-run homer from its first two hitters. Reid Rausch kept Coe alive in the bottom of the sixth, pulling one back for Coe with a leadoff homer. The Kohawks put a pair of runners on later in the frame but back-to-back strikeouts ended the scoring chance for the hosts. Mitchell Eckardt pulled Coe within three in the bottom of the seventh, smashing a leadoff homer to right to make it 8-5. Buena Vista padded its lead again in the top of the eighth, scoring its final three runs on five hits including a trio of RBI knocks. The Kohawks would score one final time in the bottom of the ninth, getting their sixth run on an errant throw from BVU's catcher. The Beavers avoided any further drama in the inning with a game-ending groundout, clinching the series opener.
