CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College baseball team swept a three-game series with Simpson College on Monday afternoon, winning a resumed game from Saturday evening 6-5 in 13 innings before winning both games of a doubleheader 10-4 and 12-2. The Kohawks and Storm started the series on Saturday but were halted due to rain and darkness in the top of the ninth inning with the visitors leading 5-4. Coe answered the call on Monday, tying the game in the bottom of the ninth on a
Jake Brosius RBI before winning in walk-off fashion in the 13th. The Kohawks rode the momentum into the regularly-scheduled doubleheader, hammering out 23 hits en route to 22 runs.
Tyce Johnson got the nod in the opening game of the doubleheader and was stellar, allowing one unearned run in six innings. His offense did more than enough, scoring two runs early before a pair of four-run innings in the fifth and eighth.
Reid Rausch and
Ryan Thoreson each recorded multi-hit performances and combined for seven of Coe's 10 RBI. Game two featured another strong pitching effort from
Ethan O'Donnell, surrendering two unearned runs in six innings. Coe's offense was active throughout, scoring in each of the first four innings before a six spot in the sixth to break it open. The Kohawks completed the run-rule victory in the top of the seventh, capping off a three-win day. During the afternoon, Brosius broke Coe's career record for stolen bases, reaching 81 swipes for his career, two more than Nick Stein's previous mark set from 2010-2013.
