CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College baseball team secured a season sweep over Central College on Tuesday afternoon, winning both games of an A-R-C doubleheader at Bill Quinby Field. The Kohawk bats powered their way to a 14-4 win in the opener, racking up 14 hits as a squad while
Mitchell Eckardt recorded five RBI and four base hits.
Ethan O'Donnell earned his fourth win of the year on the hill, working around four runs in 5.1 innings. Game two starter
Caden Richards tossed a gem in his third start of the season, pitching 6.1 strong innings with five strikeouts and just one run allowed. Coe's offense did just enough with six hits including a go-ahead solo shot from
Creighton Kreshel in the bottom of the eighth.
Michael Bonner, who came in for Richards in the seventh, dominated the final inning en route to his first win of the season.

- Central opened the scoring in the top of the first with a solo homer but Coe quickly answered, getting four in the bottom of the frame thanks to a pair of two-RBI hits from Jack Allison and Ryan Thoreson. The Dutch offense again struck in the top of the second, scoring two runs with two outs to cut the deficit to one. The Kohawk offense put together a solid run in the middle of the contest, scoring six runs across the third, fourth and fifth. Austin Gomez started the scoring in the third with a bases-loaded groundout, picking up an RBI to make it 5-3. Coe's next run came on a double steal from first and third with Tyce Johnson scampering home to make it 6-3. Jon Wille ended the scoring in the fourth with a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to four, scoring Eckardt from third. The hosts added three more runs in the fifth to blow it open, getting a solo homer from Allison before a two-run single from Eckardt. Central's final run of the game came in the top of the sixth, taking advantage of a pair of walks early in the frame. The lead grew to eight in the seventh for Coe, getting another RBI from Eckardt who doubled home Johnson before scoring later in the inning on a wild pitch. Eckardt's outstanding day was capped off in the bottom of the eighth with a game-winning two-run single, giving the Kohawks a 14-4 victory with his 18th and 19th RBIs of the year.

- Coe took the lead in the opening game in the third inning as Eckardt again came through for Coe, picking up an RBI groundout with runners on the corners. Richards dazzled on the hill for the Kohawks, working around six hits during his outing which featured three 1, 2, 3 innings. The Dutch tied the score in the top of the seventh, using a leadoff single and a two-out knock to level the score at one. Coe regained the lead for good in the bottom of the eight on Kreshel's leadoff bomb, the senior's second homer of the campaign. Bonner reentered in the top of the ninth and shut the door for Coe, working a perfect 1, 2, 3 inning to lock up the season sweep.
