CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College women's volleyball team continued its 2024 non-conference schedule with its annual home tournament over the weekend, hosting the Mabel Lee Invite at Kohawk Arena. The Kohawks posted a 2-1 record during the homestand, picking up victories over Concordia M'head and Concordia Wisconsin while dropping an in-state matchup with Grinnell. Coe dropped its opening match of the weekend 3-0 on Friday night to the Pioneers but responded well on Saturday, winning 3-0 against the Cobbers and 3-1 against the Falcons.
Maddy Maahs and
Gracie Urbatsch were honored following the matches, being named to the all-tournament team by the participating coaches.
GRINNELL 3 - COE 0
GAME FACTS
- Grinnell and Coe battled in the opening set but a solid close from the Pioneers gave them a 25-21 victory in the first. Grinnell rolled through the following two periods, winning 25-17 and 25-19 while holding Coe to a .120 hitting percentage. The Kohawks were led by Urbatsch who had a team-high 13 kills and Maahs who had 29 assists.
COE 3 - CONCORDIA M'HEAD 0
GAME FACTS
- The Kohawks started the day well, defeating the Cobbers 25-19 in the opening frame. Coe cruised in the following sets, picking up a 25-17 win in the second period before a clinching 25-21 decision in the third. Coe hit over .290 in the closing sets, committing only six attacking errors while tallying 28 kills. Kelsey Hansel had a team-high 14 kills, hitting .400 with nine digs and one ace. Urbatsch also hit the double-figure mark with 11 kills and a .625 hitting percentage.
COE 3 - CONCORDIA WISCONSIN 1
GAME FACTS
- Coe quickly raced out to an early lead in the match with a dominant first-set performance, forcing nine Falcon errors en route to a 25-17 decision. Concordia fought back and won set two with extra points, edging Coe 26-24 to knot the match at one. The Kohawks responded and won the following two sets, winning 25-20 in the third period before a back-and-forth 26-24 decision in set four. Hansel, Maddie Harris and Urbatsch racked up double-digit kills, finishing with 15, 14 and 13. Maahs had 41 assists while defensively, Maggie Furlong, Harris and Hansel posted double-digit digs.
