CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College men's basketball team started 2025 with an American Rivers Conference victory over Central College on Saturday afternoon, defeating the visiting Dutch 88-74 at Kohawk Arena. The Kohawks were impressive in the opening half, shooting 51 percent from the floor en route to a 45-29 lead at the break. The advantage was thanks in part to a 17-2 scoring run early in the frame as
Bennett Sherry scored 14 of 17 points to spark the spurt. Central fought back in the second half, closing the gap to eighth on numerous occasions. Coe hung tough and remained in front despite the charges from the Dutch, ending the game on a 12-6 run which was spurred on by
Cooper Nailor who was 12-of-12 from the free throw line. Nailor finished with a team-high 26 points in total, shooting an efficient 7-of-11 from the floor while adding two assists. Sherry had 19 points, six rebounds and one steal while Hrubes capped off the double-digit scoring with 17 points including four 3s.

- Coe and Central traded punches in the first few minutes of action with the teams separated by just one point near the 15-minute mark. The hosts took control during the next phase of play, ripping off a dominant 17-2 run to grab a 26-10 lead with 10:32 left in the frame. Sherry was dominant during the run, pouring in 14 points including four 3-pointers. Central got itself back into the game and stopped the run before the end of the first half, going back and forth over the final 10-minutes. The Dutch and Kohawks each scored 19 points during the span as Coe led 45-29 at the break. Coe momentarily pushed the lead to 17 early in the second half but Central slowly clawed back into the game, getting within single digits before the 10-minute mark with an 18-10 run. The Kohawks restored a double-digit lead before the five-minute point of the period, getting a quick 8-2 run as Ryan Dolphin and Nailor scored four points each to make it 76-62. Six unanswered points from the visitors closed the gap to eight with 2:30 but Coe ended the game with some clutch free throw shooting in the final two-plus minutes. Nailor iced the game was 12-of-12 from the charity stripe to secure the victory, giving Coe its second league win.
