DeAnn Akins resigns as volleyball head coach

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Coe College Director of Athletics and Recreation Steve Cook announced Thursday that long-time head volleyball coach DeAnn Akins will resign from her position. The all-time winningest head coach in program history, Akins leaves a legacy that will be hard to match. Since taking over prior to the 2006 season, she has amassed 388 victories, four NCAA tournament appearances and five conference titles while coaching over 60 all-conference performers and three offensive MVPs. Additionally, Akins helped coach the program's first-ever performance based all-American and has since had 11 other all-American recognitions handed out to her players. In addition to her head coaching responsibilities, DeAnn served as the department's Senior Women's Administrator, Advisor to the Student Athlete Advisory Commmittee and a leader within Fellowship of Christian Athletes on campus.

"On behalf of everyone here, I want to thank DeAnn for her 18 years of service to Coe College." said Cook. Her leadership and commitment to our student-athletes have had a lasting impact, and we wish her all the best in her future endeavors. For the entirety of her career, DeAnn led our Kohawk volleyball athletes to competitive success while continuing to positively mentor so many off the court. DeAnn's impact was not only felt by her players but by her colleagues in our department and other student-athletes on campus."
