GALESBURG, Ill. — The Coe College men's basketball team picked up a victory in its final non-conference road game of the season Tuesday evening, defeating the Knox College Prairie Fire 77-62. Coe struggled offensively early on, only hitting three of its first 19 field goals as Knox opened up a 20-7 lead near the midway mark of the first half. The Kohawks got back into the game over the next phase of play, outscoring Knox 18-8 as
Zach Strauss and
Jackson Bowman powered the run with a combined 17 points. Coe kept it close during the closing stretch of the first and hit the gas in the second, scoring nine of the first 14 points in the period that was capped by a dunk from Bowman.
Cooper Nailor started another big scoring stretch later in the half with a 3 as Coe ripped off a 16-3 spurt to go up 58-48 with 8:33 to play. Knox made a final push to pull within three with 4:48 remaining but 10 unanswered points and five forced turnovers from Coe iced the game as the Koahwks extended their lead to 73-60. Nailor and Bowman led the offensive efforts for Coe, scoring 21 points each while Bowman pulled down 11 boards for the double-double.
Kanyon Bryte (13) and Strauss (11) rounded out the double-digit scoring for Coe while defensively Bryte had an impressive five blocks.

- Knox was on top in the early moments of the first scoring, opening up with a 13-4 run where the hosts hit 6-of-13 field goals while limiting Coe to just 2-of-14. Bowman and Strauss then started a nice stretch for the Kohawks, combining for 17 points as Strauss knocked down three triples during the streak. Knox slightly edged Coe ahead of the halftime whistle, regaining a multi-possession lead at 36-31 after 20 minutes. Nailor helped set the tone in the second half, hitting a period-opening 3 to set the stage for a 17-9 run for the Kohawks where he hit two more triples to make it 48-45. Coe's onslaught continued, outscoring the Prairie Fire 10-3 to go ahead 58-48 with 8:33 to play. Knox pushed back and put a scare into the Kohawks, scoring 12 of the next 17 points to pull within three at 63-60. Coe put the game away with efficient offense and smothering defense, hitting 3-of-6 from the floor and 4-of-4 from the line while forcing five turnovers from Knox.
