Five Kohawks reach double-figures as men’s basketball opens A-R-C slate with win at Buena Vista

STORM LAKE, Iowa — The Coe College men's basketball team picked up a strong road win at Buena Vista Wednesday evening in the team's American Rivers Conference opener, defeating the Beavers 81-64. The Kohawks and Beavers were neck-and-neck in the opening half, trading mini runs but a strong close to the period gave Coe a 41-38 advantage at the break. The Kohawks dominated the second half, shaking off a solid start from the Beavers to close the game on top. Buena Vista took a small lead to begin the period but an 8-3 run sparked by Kanyon Bryte helped build the foundation for a huge run. The Kohawks went on to score 22 of the next 28 points, extending their advantage to 72-55 with 8:40 left. Coe controlled the final phase of play, staying level with Buena Vista as the defense limited the Beavers to just 3-of-9 shooting in the closing stretch. C. Reece Breitenbach led Coe's balanced attack, scoring 16 points while Jackson Bowman (15), Bryte (14), Deuce Walters (14) and Ryan Dolphin (13) all hit the double-digit mark. Cooper Nailor had nine assists, seven points, six rebounds and three steals, shaking off a tough shooting night. Dolphin added five steals on the defensive end as Coe finished with 10 as a team.
