Men's Basketball Picked to Finish Fourth in A-R-C Preseason Poll

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Kohawks men's basketball team was voted to finish fourth in the A-R-C Preseason Coaches Poll on Thursday this week. Last year's team finished third in the conference and was one win away from playing for a conference tournament title, and the Kohawks are hungry to get back to the title game this season. Coe will return six players with a lot of varsity experience, including players like Deuce Walters, Zach Strauss, C. Reece Breitenbach, and Jackson Newell. Two of those six players also include Jackson Bowman and Kanyon Bryte, who were voted all-conference last season. One graduating senior from last season who will be missed is Cooper Nailor, who was the conference player of the year and an NABC All-American. Head coach John Payan will lead the Kohawks in his third year at the helm and is excited about his players and what he's been able to build so far.

Coe will begin their season defending Kohawk Arena as they host Bremner Cup rivals Cornell (11/6), a team they swept last season. Their first road trip takes them up to Minnesota, as they take on Saint Mary's University (11/11). The next three games see a visit from Augustana College (11/14) and then a round robin against Elmhurst University (11/21) and Hamilton College (11/22) in Elmhurst, Ill. The end of November brings a home game against Westminster College (11/28), and the start of December keeps the Kohawks at home as they face UW-Platteville (12/9). The Kohawks avoid the cold and head down to Orlando, Fla. as they take on MSOE (12/19) and UW-Stevens Point (12/20) in the Orlando Classic tournament. The final two non-conference matchups happen in De Pere, Wisc., as Coe will take on UW-Whitewater (12/29) and either Hamline University or St. Norbert College (12/30) in the Nicolet National Bank Holiday Tournament.

As we start the new year, the Kohawks open conference play against Loras (1/6), before back-to-back road games against Simpson (1/9) and Nebraska Wesleyan (1/13). Coe returns home to face the Knights from Wartburg (1/16), before another back-to-back away slate against Central (1/20)  and Buena Vista (1/23). To end the month, the Kohawks host Dubuque (1/27) and Simpson (1/30) for the second time in January. A quick trip to Dubuque to face Loras (2/3) to start the month of February. Coe takes on the conference preseason favorites, Nebraska Wesleyan (2/6), and then welcomes Central (2/10) for our Mental Health Awareness game. The final three regular season games include back-to-back road games at Wartburg (2/13) and Dubuque (2/17), before Senior Day on the final regular season game against Buena Vista (2/20). The A-R-C tournament opening round is the following week (2/23).
