PELLA, Iowa – The Coe College men's basketball team came up short in an American Rivers Conference road matchup Saturday afternoon at Central, falling 75-73 to the Dutch. The Kohawks and Dutch were neck and neck throughout the matchup with the game featuring 13 lead changes and 11 ties. Coe trailed by 10, the game's largest deficit, early in the second half but refused to go away. The Kohawks went on a 20-10 run in the next seven minutes, leveling the game at 57 with 8:28 to play. The final phase of play was back-and-forth but a 3 from
Bennett Sherry gave the Kohawks a 71-69 lead with less than two minutes left. Sherry came up clutch yet again in the final seconds, tying the game with a tough bucket after a Central run. The Dutch got the final say, taking the ensuing possession immediately up the floor for the game-winning layup before the buzzer sounded. Coe had a final desperation heave but saw it come up short as Central held on for the win. Sherry finished with a team-high 23 points, and recorded his fifth double-double in seven games with 12 rebounds.
Cole Hrubes and
Jackson Bowman were the final two players in double-digits, scoring 14 and 12 respectively.

- Central opened the game with 10 of the first 12 points, getting all 10 from Joshua Van Gorp. The Kohawks slowly chipped away at the deficit, using a 15-11 run to pull within four at 21-17 with 6:57 left in the half. Coe's big run came moments later, ripping off a 12-4 spurt with six points from Bowman. Sherry capped off the run with a go-ahead dunk, making it 29-27 with 3:17 to play in the period. Van Gorp and Central regained control before the end of the period, scoring eight of the final 10 points to pull ahead 35-31 at the half. The Dutch continued to stretch the lead in the opening minutes of the second period, using a 10-4 run to go up 45-35, the largest lead of the game. The Kohawks quickly responded, scoring 14 of the next 18 points in less than three minutes to tie the game at 49. Hrubes had five points during the run while Brady Klahn, Cooper Nailor, Sherry and Kanyon Bryte all had buckets. The squads traded buckets for the next 10 minutes of play before Sherry's go-ahead 3 with 1:48 on the clock. Van Gorp scored four unanswered points for the Dutch to restore a 73-71 advantage with 15 seconds remaining. Sherry converted the game-tying bucket seconds later but Central found the answer, catching an inbound pass and sprinting the floor for an easy game-winning layup.
