WAVERLY, Iowa – The Coe College men's basketball team suffered an 80-61 defeat in its final game of the 2024-25 regular season, falling in a road matchup at Wartburg College Saturday afternoon. Wartburg started hot from the off, outscoring Coe 19-8 in the first eight minutes to gain control. Coe momentarily cut the lead to single digits but the hosts controlled the closing stretch of the period, restoring a double-digit lead before the halftime break. Coe pushed back in the second half, closing the gap to eight with 13:20 to play. Wartburg controlled the closing phase of the game, outscoring Coe 31-20 in the final 12-plus minutes to see out the victory. The Knights were on fire throughout the contest, shooting over 56 percent from the field and 45 percent from 3 while draining 10 3s. The Kohawks struggled from beyond the arc in the loss, shooting just 6-of-24 as Wartburg led for over 36 minutes of action.
Cole Hrubes and
Bennett Sherry led the offensive effort for Coe, scoring 17 and 13 points respectively while
Deuce Walters added nine.

- It was back and forth for the opening possessions but Wartburg took control five minutes in, scoring 13 unanswered points for a 19-8 lead with 11:54 left in the half. The Kohawks quickly responded, scoring nine of the next 11 points to pull within four at 21-17. Wartburg restored its control before the end of the half, ending the period on a 14-5 run to lead 35-22 at the break. Coe slowly chipped away at the lead, using a 7-3 run early in the half to pull within eight at 49-41. Wartburg put the game away over the next two-plus minutes, scoring eight unanswered points to grab a 57-41 lead with just over half the period remaining. Coe fought back and got to within 12 near the six-minute mark but the hosts controlled the final moments and saw out the victory.
