CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Coe College wrestlers
Brayden Parke and
Bryce Parke completed the storybook ending at the NCAA Region VI Championships Saturday afternoon, claiming regional titles at 125 and 133 pounds to help lead the Kohawks to a third-place team finish. Joining the Parke brothers as national tournament qualifiers are
LJ Richardson and
Jared Voss who each finished runner up in the 174- and 184-pound brackets.
Brayden Parke wrapped up a dominant display in the tournament on Saturday, picking up a first-period fall of Connor Fiser of Loras before a medical forfeit victory in the championship bout.
Bryce Parke was equally impressive during the regional tournament, earning three bonus-point victories including his title-clinching fall in the final over Luther's Connor Kidd. Richardson and Voss ultimately fell short in their final matches despite punching their tickets to the NCAA DIII Tournament, dropping a pair of decisions in the regional title matches. Richardson earned his way to the final with a 9-0 major over Wartburg's Matt Rogge before suffering a sudden-victory defeat to Zeb Gnida of Loras. Voss had one of the falls of the tournament in the semifinal, throwing his opponent to the ground before earning the first-period pin. He came up short in the final in a scrappy match, falling 4-0 to Kasey Ross of Wartburg. In total, nine of Coe's 10 wrestlers finished on the podium with
Kael Kurtz (4th, 141),
Dresden Grimm (4th, 149),
Ty Koedam (7th, 157),
Mathieu Arsenault (6th, 197) and
Damari Dancy (8th, 285) helping the team scores.
