Baseball falls to Babson in opening game of Florida trip

AUBURNDALE, Fl. – The Coe College baseball team suffered a 4-3 defeat to Babson College in its first game of the 2025 spring break trip. The Kohawks took the lead in the third inning as Eli Elsbecker scored on a wild pitch after a leadoff walk. Babson tied the game in the fourth with an RBI single but Coe responded with a run in the fifth and sixth innings to restore an advantage. Babson struck late to pull off the comeback victory, scoring one in the eighth before two in the ninth. Coe put the tying run on base with a leadoff walk in the ninth but the Beavers slammed the door shut with a pair of strikeouts and a groundout. Ryan Brosius led Coe's offensive effort in the game with two hits and one RBI while Jake Brosius, Tyce Johnson and Jack Allison had one hit each. Kohawk starter Jack Walsh turned in a strong display despite the loss, pitching 6.0 innings with nine strikeouts while allowing four hits.

  • Coe took the lead in the third inning after a pair of leadoff runners as Elsbecker and Brosius reached on a walk and single. Elsbecker came around to score later in the frame, scampering home on a wild pitch. Babson tied the game immediately in the fourth, using a one-out single to make it 1-1. Brosius came up clutch again for Coe in the fifth, delivering a two-out single to score Austin Gomez who walked early in the frame. The Kohawks took advantage of a defensive miscue for their third run of the game as Jake Brosius scored on a misplayed ball by the right fielder. Babson refused to go away, scoring one in the eighth on a RBI groundout before Xander Cloudy stranded runners on the corners. The Beavers took the lead for good in the top of the ninth, taking advantage of a Coe error to lead off the frame. Babson took the lead with a two-run double later in the inning and later slammed the door on Coe, erasing a leadoff walk with two strikeouts and a groundout.
