WAVERLY, Iowa – The Coe College baseball team secured a series victory over Wartburg Saturday afternoon, splitting an afternoon doubleheader with the Knights with a 12-1 win in game one and a 6-3 loss in game two. Coe's offense destroyed the Knights in the opening game, racking up 16 hits en route to the run-rule victory. The Kohawks went behind in the opening inning but scored twice in the second inning and later blew the game open with five runs in the fifth inning. Six players had an RBI, led by
Eli Elsbecker who had a team-high three RBI and two hits. Coe managed double-digit hits again in the second game but Wartburg scored six runs within the first four innings and held on as the Kohawks attempted to come from behind. Coe scored once in the sixth and once in the ninth to make things interesting but Wartburg escaped any further damage, leaving a runner on third in the ninth inning to earn the split.

- Coe spotted Wartburg an early lead as the Knights used a leadoff double to set the table before an RBI groundout made it 1-0. The Kohawks quickly responded in the top of the second, taking advantage of a leadoff error with back-to-back doubles from Eckardt and Hosch to go up 2-1. Coe picked up two more runs in the top of the fourth, again taking advantage of a defensive mistake from the Knights. Jack Allison singled to start the inning and was joined on base by Hosch on an error. Eli Elsbecker then delivered a two-run double to left-center, plating both runners to make it 4-1. Coe extended the lead in the fifth with five runs on five hits, getting the opening two runs on a double steal before RBI hits from Elsbecker and Jon Wille. The Kohawks put the game to bed with a run in the sixth and two in the seventh. Allison scored the first on a wild pitch and was followed by an RBI single from Ryan Thoreson and a sacrifice fly from Tyce Johnson.

- Coe took the lead with a single run in the top of the second inning, going ahead 1-0 on an RBI single from CJ Johnson. Wartburg scored three times in the bottom of the second to take the lead for good, getting three singles in to tie the game before a two-run double put the Knights ahead. The hosts made it 4-1 in the third and added a pair of insurance runs in the fourth, using four hits to double the advantage. Coe got one back in the sixth with an RBI single from Allison but the Kohawks left two runners on and missed the chance to add on. The Kohawks continued to fight into the ninth, getting another RBI from Johnson as he drove home Trevor Weber with a double but Wartburg hunkered down and ended the game with a strikeout and groundout.
