DECORAH, Iowa – The Coe College women's tennis team clinched the 2025 American Rivers Conference tournament title Saturday afternoon at Luther, defeating the Norse 4-1 for the program's first championship since the 2018 season. Coe fell behind early in the match as Luther controlled doubles play, picking up wins at number one and number three to grab the lead. Singles was a much different story as the Kohawks responded, winning the opening set in five of six matches to establish momentum. Maria Bello Escobar and Addison Leasure were the first two Kohawks to earn singles wins, earning 6-1, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-1 wins to put their team ahead 2-1. Sophia Fain was the next player to get a win across the line, defeating her opponent 6-2, 6-2 at the top singles spot to put Coe one point away from the clinch. Senior Maddie Schultz claimed the title-winning point at the number three spot for the Kohawks, securing a 7-6, 6-0 decision for the trophy.
