CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College Women's Tennis team was named as the A-R-C preseason favorite in Wednesday's coaches' preseason poll. Just over three months since returning to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2018, the Kohawk women are primed to continue climbing the ladder under sixth-year head coach
Mike Strydom. Coe will be led by A-R-C MVP
Sophia Fain and Rookie of the Year
Addison Leasure while returning all-conference performers
Alli Hagness and
Alice Tysoe will complement the dominant duo at the top.
"Preseason at Coe feels a bit like controlled chaos — rackets flying, playlists bumping, and a whole lot of hustle," added Strydom. "But don't let the fun fool you — this group is serious about getting better. In the 24-25' season, the ladies showed up early, stayed late, and bought into every challenge thrown at them. This culminated in a first conference tournament for the Kohawks since 2018. We've got a squad that's tough, smart, and maybe a little too competitive when it comes to who brings the best music to practice. The ladies are committed to building something special, and we can't wait to bring that energy into the season."
The season opens this weekend for the preseason favorites, sharpening their skills at Truman State's individual tournament (8/30). Coe begins the A-R-C schedule with a top of the table clash with Luther (9/6), traveling to Decorah to face the 2024 regular season champions. The Kohawks continue A-R-C action with a split-squad matchup at home against Central (9/13) and on the road at Dubuque (9/16). A home match with Wartburg (9/16) precedes the annual ITA Regional Championships (9/19-21), hosted by Gustavus College in St. Peter, Minnesota.
Coe rounds out the regular season with split squad action at home against Simpson (9/28) and on the road at Cornell (9/28), concluding its non-conference schedule with the Rams. The Kohawks finish off the home slate with a matchup against Loras (10/1) before hitting the road for the final split squad matches of the year at Buena Vista (10/3) and at Nebraska Wesleyan (10/3). The fall season comes to a close with A-R-C Individual Championships (10/10-11), taking place at the Clark Racquet Center with Coe serving as the championship host.
