ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Coe College volleyball team picked up a 3-1 victory over UW-River Falls Friday evening in its 2025 season opener. The Kohawks fell behind in the match after a strong opening set from the Falcons, as the opposition hit .303 and held Coe to just five kills. Coe bounced back in impressive fashion in the following three sets, ripping off 25-23, 25-17 and 25-21 victories to secure the win. The Kohawk offense was led by
Maggie Furlong and
Kelsey Hansel, posting 15 kills each while hitting .480 and .306 respectively.
Maddy Maahs had 37 assists and 12 digs for a double-double in the first game of her senior year. Defensively,
Bella Rio had a team-high 16 digs while
Tessa Casebolt (3) and
Avery Beckett (2) led the blocking efforts.

- The Falcons were on fire in the opening set, hitting .303 with 17 kills on the attacking side of the net. Coe struggled with its first action of 2025, committing six errors while recording just five kills. It was a strong response in the second period for Coe, recording 17 kills with a percentage of .300. Marissa Meyer led the charge for the Kohawks in the set, tallying five kills on nine attempts to help square the match at one. Furlong and Hansel took over in the third set, registering five kills each in the frame as Coe took advantage of seven Falcon errors for a 2-1 lead. Coe capped off the victory in the fourth set, getting five more kills from Furlong and Hansel to put an exclamation on the match.
