Nailor’s explosive 38-point performance lifts Men’s Basketball past Dubuque

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The Coe College men's basketball team took down the University of Dubuque Wednesday evening at Kohawk Arena, defeating the Spartans 85-74. The Kohawks were led by senior guard Cooper Nailor in the victory as he scored a career-high 38 points, the most points scored by a Kohawk since the 2006 season. Nailor and the Kohawks were in a battle from the opening whistle, trading first-half spurts with the visiting Spartans. Coe built a seven-point lead at the break partly thanks to 24 points from Nailor and strong defense as UD had just 11 field goals in the opening 20 minutes. The Kohawks distanced themselves from the Spartans early in the second half, extending the lead to 17 at 59-42 with 14:09 to play. UD stormed back to make it a game, pulling with six with 9:04 remaining and again with 6:16 left. Coe closed the door with a crucial five-point string, getting a solo run from Kanyon Bryte who sealed the win for the Kohawks. Bryte posted his second double-double of the season in the win, scoring 13 points while pulling down 10 boards. Deuce Walters was the final Kohawk across the double-figure mark, adding 11 points and four assists.
