LINCOLN, Neb. – The Coe College men's soccer team won its first American Rivers Conference game of the 2026 season on Wednesday evening at Nebraska Wesleyan, defeating the Prairie Wolves 3-2. The Kohawks scored the opening goal as freshman
Jonah Lasselle scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season in style, beating his defender with a handful of stepovers and chops before scoring with a far-post strike that found the side netting. NWU would equalize less than ten minutes later, but Coe scored again in the 34th as Lasselle again beat a defender, this time with strength, before a perfect cross found the head of
Jake Keebler for 2-1. Coe had another answer for the Prairie Wolves in the second half after an equalizing goal in the 64th minute as Lasselle made another impact, earning a penalty that
Valentin Lobos slotted past the keeper for 3-2. The Kohawk defense and
William Shaw did the rest of the work for the remainder of the match, keeping the NWU attack at bay and limiting the hosts to a few weak shot attempts.

GAME FACTS
- Laselle opened the scoring for Coe in the first half, picking up the ball in the far corner of the attacking third in the 17th minute. The freshman showed off his footwork, leaving his defender in the dust with a combination of skill moves before firing a shot from a tight angle past the keeper and into the side netting. Nebraska Wesleyan leveled the match less than ten minutes later, sending a lofted through ball past Coe's defense for an on-rushing attacker to poke past Shaw. Coe regained the lead in the 34th minute as Lasselle was involved again, shouldering off a defender before lofting a perfect cross for Keebler, who found space for a free header. The back-and-forth action continued in the second half as NWU tied the game in the 64th minute, hitting Coe with a quick-striking move that resulted in a goal at Shaw's near post. Moments later, Lasselle earned a penalty for the Kohawks, beating his defender to the six-yard box before a rash challenge sent him to ground. Lobos stepped up calmly and dispatched the penalty for Coe, hammering past the keeper into the lower left corner for 3-2. Coe's defense then locked down the Prairie Wolves for the final 25 minutes, keeping the hosts away from Shaw's goal except for two late shot attempts that he easily saved.
